If you’re a fan of haggis, or fancy yourself as a poet, you might be thinking of celebrating Burns Night on the 25 January. It’s a traditionally Scottish event that happens every year to celebrate the life and work of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns.Even if you aren’t a Scot, anyone can celebrate Burns Night.
What is Burns Night?
🐏 Why not don some tartan, read up on your poetry and enjoy a classic Scottish feast? During the night, haggis is usually the star of the show – but if that’s not your taste, why not tuck in to some neeps and tatties (or in other words – mashed turnip and potato)! Wash it all down with a dram of some Scottish whisky, and it’ll be a night worth celebrating (just remember not to drink and drive)!
What happens during the night?
💃 During the meal, you could take some time to enjoy Robert Burns’ most well known poems – ‘Auld Lang Syne’ being one of them – or dance the night away with some traditional Scottish jigs and music filled bagpipes. Some also may celebrate with a bonfire, which would really put the ‘Burn’ into Burn’s Night!
If you deliver in Scotland, you may want to prepare for some extra orders on the night as Scots prepare to commemorate their national poet. If they forget their haggis, neeps or tatties – they may be making some last minute grocery deliveries.
Wherever you choose to celebrate Burns Night, we hope you have a bonnie time!
