A picture of a pizza

Pizza’s history stretches back further than a melted mozzarella cheese pull. Originating from ancient civilisations, where they enjoyed flatbreads with toppings, the pizza as we know it truly blossomed in Naples, Italy. It was here the Margherita pizza was born, with tales suggesting it was named in honour of Queen Margherita in the late 19th century.

Fast forward to today, and there are all kinds of pizzas winning hearts worldwide. Whether it’s a Chicago deep dish, a stuffed crust, a calzone, gluten free or plant-based – there’s a pizza for everybody. Even the ones that split opinion – like Hawaiian – are celebrated on National Pizza Day.

Now, as couriers, this day is likely to be swamped with pizza boxes of all sizes, whisking them to eager recipients as restaurants put on all kinds of special offers.

What’s the takeaway?

National Pizza Day is a celebration of cheesy, carby legendary food. To all our couriers who may be delivering more pizza than usual today, happy National Pizza Day. May your crusts be crispy, and your toppings joyous.
