We want couriers to be safe, no matter the conditions.
Ensuring Couriers’ Safety is Our Top Priority!
Extreme weather conditions
It is important to always slow down in extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain or hail and switch on your headlights to improve visibility. Additionally, try to avoid sudden braking or steering especially in wet conditions, as this can be highly dangerous for yourself and for others on the road.
Overtaking vehicles can be highly risky in extreme weather due to loss of visibility. Try to avoid unnecessary overtaking and when you do ensure you do so safely by being aware of your surroundings. Road scanning is important when manoeuvring on the road.
Driving at night
As visibility is reduced, we recommend that you adjust your driving speed to the range of your headlights, so that you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear ahead of you. We also recommend that you avoid looking directly at any incoming headlights, as you may be temporarily stunned.
Ensure your windscreen and lights are clear at all times, and that this is maintained during your journey. Always scan the road carefully and watch for pedestrians and bicycles which may be more difficult to see at night.
Changing road surfaces
Most roads are smooth, however depending on your location you may encounter changing road surfaces that may be hazardous. Driving on these roads requires more attention and caution, therefore it is important to understand how to handle these conditions.
Being cautious in these instances requires similar techniques to driving at night and during extreme weather conditions as mentioned above. When driving on a gravel road, your tyres have less grip making speed management important, as control of the vehicle and braking is more difficult. Drivers should always slow down straight away when running into uneven road surfaces. It is once again important to consider increasing the distance between you and the car in front, especially when going around a bend.
